Poisonings in Ioannina - January 23, 2003

What is he thinking, what is he feeling and more important what is he learning this little boy standing in front of the body of his poisoned friend? Our society continues to educate its children with fear, violence and disregard for life, not only with scenes on the television but with the actions of our everyday life.

Think also of the risk such poison presents to the small children in our neighborhoods.

The dog in the photographs was a pet called Romeo. Romeo loved the children of Goritsa, Eliousa, Ioannina and used to meet them everyday at the school gates. Romeo and the other dog pictured were both poisoned on 23 January 2003.

KiDiZo would like to express its thanks to Mr Anastasios Dimitrakis for the photographs and for informing us of the poisonings.

In accordance with law N1197/1981 whoever kills, tortures, ill treats or abandons animals is subject to punishment with a prison sentence of up to 6 months or a fine of up to 297 Euro, or both.
